It starts with genius, like all things worth sharing with the world. Soothing satiating salve of creation released…
But what is it that defines the mind and work that so captivates us?
What depth of soul calls forth a divinity in art that speaks to a modern generation?
For my part, I believe the essence of history filters through McQueen’s genius to remind us of exquisite ascendance past; of times when royal artistry, noblesse oblige and patronage peaked and soared in competition with angels for regal affection. When men looked humbly to the heavens for guidance and poured their souls into crafting from both the depths and guided heights of their finely honed talent.
Have we again seen the Sistine Chapel or Hall of Mirrors compared?
Countries pride themselves on the ascendance of their artists, claiming ownership of the ground this muse treads, for they have been able to actualise; to create – to glimpse heavens gifts as given to mankind to bear and birth. Madness and genius, struggle and pain.
The human condition was Alexander McQueens- a pound of flesh for a league of beauty; a tortured breath to inspire a million minds.
We sacrifice ourselves for our art – and rightly so, for we are genius; unique; connected with the exquisite beauty within by the generous blessed grace of the heavens.
What we struggle with is the fear. The fear that we are not worthy of this greatness, this immense beauty that can pour from us if we follow our muses and give ourselves humbly over to our greater power. Ego makes us stumble. Ego makes us fall.
We love the creative genius for being our knight, battling for humanity’s creative glory and winning with his every creation. But all heroes tire and legends must eventually rest. The dragon wins in the end. But the heroes work cannot be unseen or un-inspire those it has touched. The legacy lives on.
Alexander McQueen’s spark touched millions in his time on earth, and we are thankful.
We hail these geniuses for their gifts, their contribution, their sacrifices and most of all the way they change our worlds with an attitude, an idea, an inspiration.
It ends with genius – the curtain drawn closed for the next act to prepare and reveal to fresh eyes and a new generation.
